During my bi-weekly trek from Long Beach to Pasadena, I came across this billboard on the side of the 710 freeway. “Celebrate Black History Month! Let your new life begin, 1 (800) GET-THIN.”
It made me think.
Yes, the “let your new life begin, call 1(800) GET-THIN” song is a catchy specimen of jingle-genius. But who knew that signing up for a lap band procedure was a legitimate way of honoring African Americans and their struggle for equality in this country? Would Rosa Parks be cool with this? But then again, I suppose that if Hallmark can invent ways to celebrate holidays, so can 1 (800) GET-THIN. After all, it’s about equal opportunity, right?
