Tanjobi Omedeto, Abraham Lincoln

Today was a good day. For one, I rejoined the world of cellular communication after 5 (yes, FIVE) entire days without a cell phone. My poor phone was abducted by aliens last Monday and unfortunately I did not have my UFO radar handy to protect it. I seriously had this crazy dream last night that a shabby old man led me to my missing phone, which was hiding underneath a trailer in an RV park in the middle of the night. And I KNEW it was my phone because it was playing my lively “Medieval Jaunt” ringtone. But, alas, I woke up, the music stopped its medieval jaunting, and the phone was still gone. That’s all in the past now though, as I am the proud new owner of a Droid 2 with global capabilities.

Today was also Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, and if that isn’t a reason to celebrate, I don’t know what is! I have this awesome Abe Lincoln Chia Head that I’ve been waiting to bust out, and now is the perfect time. I’ll keep you posted on the growth process, but right now he’s totally bald.

If Lincoln had not been assassinated in 1865, he would be celebrating his 202nd birthday today. And you know what Honest Abe’s 202nd birthday means, don’t you? That means that this year, 2011, is the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War. There is a great website that lists anything and everything having to do with “The Sesquicentennial,” including the following highlights:

Lecture: “The Attack of Fort Sumter” at the Museum of The Confederacy
April 15, 2011
Richmond, Va.

Reenactment: “Battle in Chambersburg, Pa. ”
April 16, 2011
Adams County, PA

Event: “Sesquicentennial of the First Battle of Manassas” at Manassas NB
July 21, 2011
Manassas, Virginia

Basically, my point is, book your battlefield vacations NOW.
